Masaki Yuasa’s Return

The people that brought us the phenomenal romantic comedy
The Tatami Galaxy are back and when I say back I mean the writers, artists and TTGMasaki Yuasa himself, one of the most experimental anime directors out there. Yoru wa Mijikashi Arukeyo Otome or in English The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl sees 2 characters from The Tatami Galaxy cameo and this is exciting, does this mean we’ll get a Masaki Yuasa universe in which characters from Kaiba stumble into his new works? Probably not but a dumb otaku can dream right.

Synopsis of The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl  TNISWOG 2
A black haired girl is walking around the streets of Kyoto, from the night scene of Pontocho to a second-hand book fair in Shimogamo, then off to a college fair. The main character that has a romantic feeling for her secretly follows her around and looks for the opportunities to run into her in a manner that seems like a coincidence. Unfortunately for him, she is not interested in love yet so she does not notice his feelings. What waits these two characters are crazy incidents caused by individuals such as a person who introduces himself as a Japanese mythical creature Tengu, the god of second-hand book or the money lender in a three story vehicle.

Masaki Yuasa has brought us visual spectacles such as the highly underrated Ping Pong TheMASAKI GANG Animation and even directed the trippiest episode of Adventure Time… when are going we to agree that Adventure Time is basically anime?
devilmanAnyway Masaki Yuasa is still alive and kicking directing the new Devilman remake which is being released this fall.

I’m glad to hear that the artists that drew The Tatatmi Galaxy have returned for The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl and I’m happy that anime studios are giving experimental directors chances. Sadly we westerners have to wait till the DVD release before we can even see it so kick your feet up, it’s going to be a long waitgiphy-downsized
